The Movie Network launched on February 1, 1983.
The first movie to air on The Movie Network was Star Wars.
The Movie Network was the first Canadian broadcaster to bring the hit television series The Sopranos to Canadian viewers. The Sopranos premiered on The Movie Network on January 10, 1999, day-and-date with HBO in the United States.
The Movie Network offers over 200 movies and exclusive original series every month on five multiplex channels, with over 25 new premieres airing monthly and three new premieres every weekend.
The Movie Network has deals with virtually every major U.S. studios for Hollywood-hit movies as well as Canadian distributors for high-profile independent and Canadian films.
The Movie Network has output deals with HBO and Showtime which enables the network to acquire series, original films, specials and documentaries and air these titles day-and-date with HBO and Showtime in the U.S.
The Movie Network works with Canadian independent producers to develop and commission exclusive Canadian original series.
