Homicide detective Mike Sweeney has been through hell. The woman he loved was murdered by his high school nemesis Ray Prager and the wife he wants to love is filing for divorce. Moving to Durham County was supposed to mend his family but they are more torn apart than ever. Though Ray now sits in a psychiatric lockdown, Mike’s daughter, Sadie who’s the principal witness at his murder trial continues to be harmed by him. Mike, down and troubled, can’t resist the charms and comfort of his colleague, Pen Verrity, a forensic psychiatrist. But Pen is damaged, more than Mike could imagine, and that damage will reverberate in his life - again endangering his family.
